"Taxation without representation is tyranny"

Motor insurance is compulsory, hence motor insurance is a tax on the motorist and therefore there ought to be increased transparency in the methods of premium setting and such.

A casino is not entitled to change the rules of blackjack or poker when someone has been on a good run; why should insurers be entitled to penalize motorists with higher premiums because they are having to pay increased damages on cases that have NOTHING to do with them and arise from someone else's negligence.

The lack of regulation, of true competition and of the potential for cabal-like behavior within the insurance industry is such that there needs to wide and sweeping reform of the way in which they operate. The status quo just isn't equitable; premiums go up (predictably) whenever there are factors that increase the insurers' liability but whenever legislation is introduced reducing their liability on a claim for claim basis, they roll out (painfully predictably) the spectre of a compensation culture.

Time to cut out the cancer; apply a contribution to the sale of every new car, require someone purchasing a second car to register the sale with the DVLA and charge a fee, charge a contribution to road tax and petrol/diesel and have all of the money divert into a fund similar to the CICA and remove motor insurance and the crooks that sell it from the market altogether.
