In reply to Simon Cockshutt, below, the point is that every transaction is different and should be treated as such. The main complaint against lawyers, particularly property ones, is that they do not keep the clients informed. This seems absolutely fundamental. If you keep the client updated every time something happens they don't ring up asking for news because they already know. In the general attempt to do the job cheaply, the client is told nothing. Telling the client something which is meaningful, which a system will never do (because it doesn't think), is what clients want even if they pay more for it. This has never changed over all the many years I have done property work of whatever type at whatever price of the property.
