As highlighted earlier Zuzana, when referring to Public transport, this was a regional observation. By way of example, I am based in Luton and most of the jobs are in London. Whether we use Snaresbrook CC in North London or Isleworth CC in South London or the High Court in Central London. The birdseye view journey would provide 20.00 when the actual peakhour travel ticket would be 37.00+. I have always argued this point; that it is no cheaper for judge, barrister, solicitor or a pathologist attending court as far as travel cost and times are concerned. However, when it comes to Interpreters the first hour of travel is not accounted for and any costs beyond the mileage allowance of 20ppm is also not accounted for.
To place this in context, an Interpreter travelling from Luton to Snaresbrook by car in peakhour morning/evening traffic and negotiating the M25; Journey time 3.5h + 7-8 hours attendance at a trial. With a 12 hour day for travel + attendance an Interprter would be earning no more than 10.00ph less expenses. By Public transport it would mean less as each day the Interpreter would be left out of pocket by 15.00pounds. There is just no way that this remuneration model is viable either in the short or long term.
