Service standards at the County Court (they say it's one county court but don't operate that way) are dreadful. It's bad for the professionals but there's usually the funds to deal with the consequences. I can't see how litigants in person could cope with it. Court service failures compound litigants' difficulties and can end up costing the 'customer' a lot of money when you have to pay to apply to mitigate non-responsiveness etc (as indeed Anon 08.50 alludes to).
