It is true in part that businesses are deterred from seeking legal advice because of cost, a fear contributed to by statements like this. I fancy the ICAEW as a regulator - their members don't have to publish prices. The FSB offers members "free" Legal Protection Insurance, except it doesn't cover most of the kinds of legal advice Mr MacHeath is talking about. FSB members will discover that once it happens and then will (obviously) be given fixed prices by the lawyers/insurers that have paid the FSB to acquire that business. Very transparent. As of course will be the price comparison websites we will be expected to pay to get premium listings and who would never do a deal insisting we don't offer lower prices via any other "comparison" website, like comparethe brokenmarket.com (allegedly).
