I feel so strongly about this issue that I have registered for the first time. I completely agree with most comments made in that for a Judge to shout, bully, belittle and intimidate anyone in court in completely inappropriate and should be evidence that they are not suitable for the role. Such behaviour undermines the respect and authority of the Court. Unfortunately, the Judicial Conduct Investigations Office will do nothing about this behaviour and it is seen as within the bounds of acceptability and a hazard of the job. There are some in the profession who also take this view and respond by expecting advocates to 'man-up'. I also agree that the Judges who act in this way have serious personality flaws and it is they who are wrong, not the court-user of whatever description who is the victim of such behaviour.
I just hope that this prompts change and forces the JCIO to take action against such behaviour in the future.
With regard to Anon at 18:41 below, the Judge I think you are referring to ended his days in a secure unit. Sheffield is particularly unlucky as it also has a current Judge who fits all the traits being discussed here and more.
