Anon @ 16.04: Yes, you can pick an MoT text provider, but they will only be able to tell you what the test will cost. Until they actually see, and test, your car, they won't be able to tell you the total cost, because they won't know what is wrong with it (if anything), or what the price of any remedial work will be.

In legal terms, that's not dissimilar to asking solicitors what the court fee would be to issue your divorce - they'll be able to tell you, but it won't be particularly relevant to determining how much it will actually cost to deal with your case.
