Anon@10:28. The client hasn't paid you to keep copies of file notes, or copies of letters you already sent them, or copies of time recording ledgers. These thing are created for your benefit. The client paid you to get them their compensation settlement.

Pleadings, for example are things you *have* been paid to produce.so the client is entitled to a copy. Likewise a letter from the opponent of the client. But internal file notes and copy letters already sent to the client are kept by you in order to protect you / the firm. That's why a usual firm's file retention policy is to keep these copies commensurate with the limitation period.
