Oh dear. Bags I be a T-Rex!
Outside of the Left liberal bubble, organisations are trying to hire people at all levels who don’t want to work flexibly - mainly men, older women and Eastern Europeans.
In industries required to produce a 24/7 on-call service under SLAs containing heavy penalties for default an employee is a rara avis indeed. Their sub-contractors have to prove they are genuinely self employed, ie in business on their own account/marketing their services to the world at large. They are mostly men.
Most local government professional services over the last couple of weeks have been provided by agency staff, who have to be on the premises to be paid. They are the ones who take the strain most of the time anyway; they tend to be older.
Supermarkets are employing pensioners who need the money. They’ll work the shift they are allocated for that reason and they give good customer service; you don’t see them trying to break off in the middle of serving a customer because it’s hometime. Even more specifically, you try getting served in Boots before 9.30 and after 3.00; you will be served in Superdrug because they employ school leavers who will work the shift the employer wants. And for that same reason, you are starting to see men on high end cosmetic concessions.
