This is all very sad. There seem to be two main points. The first is the failure to consult the victims. You can assume they would object to their attacker’s release, or suggest restrictions. The other is the failure to conduct the proceedings in public.
None of these is new. It would apply to every similar decision going back decades. How come no one, including Lord Falconer noticed, not even when he was LC.
Openness and proper procedures are vital but The central question remains “have the experts got it right?” As with Brexit, no chance, if it stands in the way of media getting its way.
