As a conveyancing solicitor, all this case has done is make sure we ask the sellers for such an undertaking that they've done their kyc whilst absolutely refusing to give such an undertaking.

If the decision is upheld and there's no further appeal, this may very well spell the end. No solicitor is going to take such a risk.

Maybe the land registry could put the month and year of birth for each registered proprietor on the register (like companies house). Even if the fraudster changes their name by deed poll, they'd be lucky to have the same month of birth.
