Equal pay is a legal minefield for even straightforward like for like comparisons. When you get into equal value issues, you are looking at how the employee is assessed by the employer in terms of the demands of their job. That becomes quite complex, particularly where there are multiple scales. Finally you have rated as equivalent claims where the Court assesses the demands, not the employer.
Such claims are lengthy and expensive - and frankly the outcome is unpredictable.
So these stats don’t seem to mean very much and certainly don’t encourage claims - but then that’s why they have been released isn’t it?
