A sad loss. And let's just reflect on the fact that in these pages less than two weeks ago, certain lawyers were commenting that militant religion should never be 'policed'. That was in the discussion on sharia courts and marriage.

It is a good thing that we have brave lawyers like Ms Jahangir who have devoted their lives to defending basic democracy and human rights, and opposing theocracy, barbarism and fundamentalist Islam - which has been like a plague in countries like Pakistan (from which my family originates).
