Dominic, the inquest did not make a finding of neglect. You are not a GP, and do not know the pressures on them in general, or this GP in particular. Her regulatory body issued a warning to her. We, as professionals, should respect other regulatory bodies' ability to judge their own profession.
As for the case here, not doing your job properly is worthy of a reprimand. Not doing it then lying about it and forging documents is worthy of strike off. He should think himself lucky the costs weren't as high as they seem to be in many other cases!
We all make mistakes. I shall never forget the day I had to phone my senior partner to tell him I had made a big mistake. I did it as soon as I realised. He was very nice about it and said I had redeemed myself over the years in any event. Don't lie about it - it will ALWAYS make things worse.
