Housing cases are generally not technical. The court should be sympathetic and able to ask questions to glean relevant information from someone who is presenting their own case. They should be able to explain things to the judge much as they would do to their own advocate, especially if they have already had their rights explained to them by the local law centre.

Before the taxpayer is asked to fund legal services someone has to answer the question "why can they not put their own case direct?"

The outrage shown in this case seems absurd to me. Public money is not infinite. If there is a housing problem I would rather money was spent on housing rather than spending it on lawyers arguing about housing.
