As someone working in Legal, but a legal professional (ie Law Degree) and currently looking for a job, I can confirm this is by no means just the legal sector, I've yet to come across a sector that doesn't treat candidates badly.
I currently get:

*no replies from recruiters who have approached me, I chase them daily for a week and still no reply
*recruiters who advertise jobs that they say are current/being recruited for, when you call them this job has "just been filled" but if you give them all your data an "go in and register with them" they will "keep a look out for you" (I used to do recruitment and this is just recruiters trying to hit their KPI's for number of candidates they've had register in a given period). Then you never hear back from most.
*companies that act really keen on the phone, I chase them twice a week (or as appropriate) for updates and they don't take your calls.
*random emails from recruiters offering a job nothing to do with the skills on your CV (all get marked as spam)
*recruiters trying to sell you a job in a location you don't want, or at a lower salary that you currently have.
*companies regularly emailing you even though you have told them you don't want anything to do with them (Vodafone and their aggressive recruiters are a good example)

The way companies and recruitment agencies quite literally "use" candidates I find awful, I spent 6 years headhunting for the world's largest organisation, and we never behaved like this. Communication was key, it was essential and if you didn't get back to people you were in trouble.

All that said, when I speak to companies and agencies that treat me well, I'm far more open minded towards talking to them and only work for companies who are great in the recruitment process. From experience I have found that if they lie at interview, they will lie a lot more when you work for them, and treat you a lot worse ...
