As the “Secret Barrister” has made clear in his excellent book about the law being broken, solicitors play a pivotal role in the Criminal Justice System.

A once fine system currently on its knees, might just have seen a crack appear in the veneer of the government’s indifference to justice.

The Law Society is to be congratulated on its strategy in this case. But I would add, that this case is not just about lawyers getting better paid, it’s also about restoring a once fine system to its former standing, so that victims of criminality feel there really has been justice, and the innocent are not unfairly convicted in a resource starved system.
