Arthur Robinson has a point about the difficulty of getting information. One party can stall the whole process by constantly delaying or refusing to provide necessary financial information for the purpose of trying to agree a settlement; as a corollary of the view that wives use children as bargaining chips or a "controlling and coercive tactic", it often seems to be husbands who stall or manipulate on the financial information front, because - 40 years on from equal pay legislation - they tend to have greater resources and earning power (and there are plenty of men who exhibit controlling and coercive behavior).

We do already have no fault divorce; whether removing the need to cite the grounds will remove acrimony remains to be seen. If the parties are at loggerheads anyway, the proposed changes will probably make little difference and they will fight all the way to the finishing line.
