Having done this work for 20 years I can see where this comes from - not an excuse though.
You spend 50 hours on a successful CN case. Acumension offer 25 and reduce your disbs and ATE. Provisional Assessment gives you 36 hours. Quite how you lose 14 hours next case you’re not sure. You get about 70% of time spent on winners and no time on losers. Success fees mitigate but don’t eradicate the deficits.
You get paid for 7 days out of 10. We all just want to be paid for the work we honestly do. Solution for some is to claim 65 hours instead of 50 or ‘change ‘ the fee earner. Only possible if either you lie on your time sheets or draft your own bills. Once you start this you can’t stop or your costs are down on last year. Once we start to deceive etc etc.
What a sorry state we have got ourselves into.
Fixed fees? Careful what you wish for. Settle a case early for £3000 costs on 3 hours work and I bet there’s trouble round the corner.
