We carry insurance so that we don't get blown to pieces by claims if and when they are made. That's a matter of self preservation. Uninsured lawyers will be able to compete with us for services but then they do anyway. Would you rather employ a surgeon to replace your knee or would you have a go yourself ? How hard can it be, right? Well, let the public find out the hard way. Rather than launch a pointless and expensive JR we could get on with the business of campaigning towards abolishing the SRA. There is nothing to stop solicitors being labelled as "Law Society approved" and that should be the mark of trustworthy lawyers. As to those who want to dumb down and go uninsured good luck to you, if you think the Judges won't take your house, even if you aren't really at fault, you haven't been reading many cases lately. Solicitors and their insurers are their lordship's panacea for all society's' ills.
