I have just bought and sold three residential properties. I never had to do that before, I used to be a commercial lawyer in the City of London. I am appalled at the incompetence, laziness and complacency of most residential conveyancers who are operating a mediaeval system that is not only not fit for purpose but is unfriendly and unhelpful to the consumer. But where do you start? I am sorely tempted to say what Shakespeare said because most of the lawyers seem to be oblivious as to what the consumer wants. I suspect that the monopoly has to be broken so that lawyers learn to provide a product that the public wants rather than one it cannot avoid.
