Another consequence of endless cuts in the CPS. If Prosecutors are generally expected to write these letters during and after overflowing court hearings (in between preparing unprepared cases, disclosing undisclosed evidence and speaking to witnesses), it’s inevitable that mistakes will be made. Quite frankly I’d rather the prosecutor focuses on the court case than writing sympathetic letters which will mostly go into the bin.
