No one has mentioned the fact that a huge number of northerners want to stay in the north. They don't want to go to London. London is not the centre of the world for everyone.

The headline could have been "London firms receive lots of applications from people who live in London".
Although I suspect that headline would be a little less click baity.

(ps. I'm northern and I went to a northern comprehensive. My university was a former poly. In the north. I've worked in London for most of my career)
