It would appear that the SRA take the general view that solicitors are guilty before they are proved to be innocent. It is alright for a solicitor to stand in court and use whatever means are necessary to defend a client, but not for a solicitor to be placed in a defensive position before his peers for standing up to attacks on his private life, particularly one as vulnerable as Mr Lewis. As a member of the Irish Law Society, it makes me ashamed to be a member of the UK Law Society that would act in such an immoral manner.

Mr Lewis was not acting in his capacity as a solicitor but as a private individual. He had not been convicted by the relevant authorities of any wrongdoing, but the SRA takes upon itself to act outside its authority to convict outside the law.
