Why do we let barristers anywhere near costs? Nobody can possibly object to £80,000 recoverable to sort out a dispute if you strictly limit what has to be done in the case, and what the other side can spend on a solicitor and own client basis. This means Judges getting hold of cases, immersing themselves in them and saying what they actually want the parties to go ahead and do. They NEVER do this. The Judiciary don't stick to the deal ( they would correctly say that listing prevents them from doing so) but it is redolent of the attitude from the Bench that solicitors are untermensch and who cares whether they make a living or not. I've news for them. Kill solicitors and every case will end up in Court because absent solicitors parties can never trust each other enough to hold monies and documents and exchange them in deals.
