What never ceases to amaze me is the absence of evidence (on the basis that there has apparently been no research) on whether life expectancy might increase where a catastrophically injured person receives high quality, professional care. It seem to make intuitive sense that such a person might be expected to live longer than a comparator without the benefit of that level of care, though intuition unstanchioned by evidence is of course worthless.
