The last I heard, Mr Ball, judges from Britain (and some other Commonwealth countries such as Australia) were still able to sit on the bench in Hong Kong. Lord Walker of Gestingthorpe did so, I believe, after his retirement from the Supreme Court, despite HK being now technically part of the "People's Republic of China". I'm not sure that that has yet happened or is likely to happen in any European state. There are many parts of the world where we are more at home than in continental Europe.
