However it is a very useful filter - basically if you are no up to much and probably should not be in law you will have all this debt as your TCV will not fund you. If you are worth being in the profession your LPC will be paid for (and GDL) and the only debt you will have is the 9% graduate tax which is the current student loan system (and then it only applies on earnings over £25k or you have none because your parents funded you).

IN other words for one of the first times in history you can get there for no up front payments. Even in my day my parents had to make my £50 a year minimum grant up to £900 - a huge commitment and there was no obligation on parents do to so.

(By the way just a clarifcation on the article - most students' maintenance loan is more like £4500 a year and is less than the cost of their rent at university so they need a job or a parent able to help to meet that cost or they live at home)
