I mean why stop at employment and contract law?

Surely the need to ensure the protection of the public interest and the rule of law is most acute in the criminal law sphere?

There are lawyers who actually represent criminal (whom the police and Daily Mail know are guilty) defendants and try to get them off! And even more shockingly, when convicted, these lawyers actually regurgitate information told to them by their clients in a "plea in mitigation".

How dare counsel for the Defence tell the judge that "Danny has clearly seen the error of his ways, your honour, and has a secure offer of employment, and promises the court that even though he has 21 convictions for theft and affray, he won't do it again, honestly"!

And what's good for the goose is good for the gander. If these poor victims who were forced at gunpoint to sign compromise agreements have a desperate need to sell their stories to the Guardian / tabloids (delete as appropriate) then it only stands to reason that the employer can likewise tell their own story - namely "she's a lying grasping awkward so and so, nobody liked her and she made up allegations about half of the staff. When she finally made up an allegation of sexual assault, we spoke to her and it was clear she just wanted a bit of compo, so we paid her off and to be honest we're glad to be shot of the obnoxious ****. Worth every penny." Although somehow I don't think that is what these "campaigners" have in mind.
