The premise that success = partnership is utterly wrong.

My wife, after first experiencing plenty of incredible and crass sexism, "achieved" partnership at a very large national commercial firm with a great reputation that you will all have heard of, in her early 30's.

It was a dystopian, back biting, sweatshop nightmare and she was far too smart to endure it for long.

She now has 3 kids and a brilliant job with sensible hours out of private practice as head of legal at a fantastic organisation. She probably earns less per annum than she would be doing had she stayed in the purgatory of partnership, but I bet she earns more per hour and she is treated as a grown up.

Unsurprisingly, most of her lawyer colleagues at her current, happy place of work are women. Smart women who had spotted how toxic so called "top end" private practice is.

Stop measuring success as partnership.
