I cannot see that commonhold has any real advantage (other than it 'freehold' window dressing) over a 999 year leasehold arrangement where the freehold is vested in a tenant owned management company.

The real problem with leaseholds is rip off rents, landlords and managers demanding extortionate fees for consents and information at every opportunity and word processor driven documentation where everything is thrown in 'just in case', which are so complex as to be meaningless to most buyers (and many lawyers!) - the latter problems have in the last 15-20 years crept into modern freehold developments as well.

Why not concentrate on getting rid of the leaches and cutting down on the bilge that comes into our email boxes everyday?

Commonhold or leasehold, an owner is only ever going to be one seat on a committee of however many - and there is no known cure for apathy.
