CPS prosecutors are predominately female so it is unlikely that they will be sexually discriminating against women in their choice of counsel. Furthermore, I cannot say I have ever noticed a dearth of female barristers around the courts and I would suggest that these days the likelihood of all 18 defence barristers in one case being male is pretty remote. Finally, isn't it a matter for individual chambers to sort out which of their barristers take on which type of work? I may be speaking out of turn but I suspect we solicitors are more concerned with the competence of the barrister than their gender.
