I was once told by a friend who had worked at the Stock Exchange for a time that the story was told that, way back in the early part of the last century, a member of the Exchange came in brown footwear and was forever after known as "Banana Boots". Perhaps the "top international lawyer" should advocate for the revival of this sobriquet. On a more serious note, Italian men of style (and stylish Italian men can be very stylish indeed) are not averse to wearing brown shoes with blue suits, depending on the shades of brown and blue concerned. I am happy to wear oxblood (is that brown?) shoes with a mid- to dark navy suit myself.
