I know this is hardly an original observation, but I remember companies like Toys'R'Us, HMV, Woolworths etc being criticised for the way they put small companies and independent shops out of business.

As a result, I find it hard to have too much sympathy for the "entity" which is the company. I do, however, feel very sorry for the staff and loss of high street jobs - I worked most weekends from 15-18 years old around my education just to have a little bit of income and remember the time fondly.

It always struck me that high street jobs provided much needed options for people only able to work part time (hark a bit of leftyism - especially when it's proper UK tax paying businesses instead of "tax-dodgers")
