I was part of a similar campaign back in the 90s against Green Form rates. I remember that Lord Irvine said that he was not going to increase rates because there was no need. He had all the Green Form Legal Aid Solicitors that he needed at the existing rate.
I gave up Green Form work soon after. If you are prepared to work at a particular rate of pay then, you make it impossible to argue that the rate is too low. Simple economics. Supply and demand. It's the same with nurses' pay. It will increase when there is a shortage of nurses.
As long as Counsel work for the going rate, there is no economic pressure to increase that rate. No one is going to increase your pay out of kindness or respect.
