Surprised at so much anti-barrister moaning below. The reason it's started with the bar is because the Bar Council pushed for it and obviously, following the pilot, their members will benefit. Its quite pathetic that some people's inferiority complex is so great is that all they can see is barristers being treated preferably rather than the obvious point that their representative body led the way on it.

Ironically, despite all the lazy armchair criticism below, solicitors will also benefit when it rolls out to them, despite having never done anything to get the scheme.

If there is any criticism, it should be focused on the Law Society which has not taken any effective steps on behalf of solicitors to allow easier access.

Finally, re anon @09.42; it's really something to suggest terrorism. I mean, what planet are you on? Many people get waived through without security (court staff for a start, judges, police officers and even delivery men). What makes you think that the risk of terrorists using leverage has now become bigger?

Also, it seems to me that anyone who thinks courts are targets for terrorism, as opposed to completely unsecured stations and tube stops, has lost their mind.
