The Law Society will use its UN special consultative status this week to register its concern at human rights violations committed by Turkey against hundreds of lawyers.

The move is timed to coincide with Turkey’s ‘universal periodic review’, a process that involves a review of the human rights record of all 193 UN member states. Chancery Lane will provide details of lawyers in Turkey who have faced state interference with their professional duties, including imprisonment and harassment.
