Black country firm Higgs & Sons is in the running for Obiter's law firm with the most unusual client base 2005 award. Following on from its key role in the acquisition of a reptile sanctuary (see [2005] Gazette, 1 April, 10), the firm has now regaled us with tales about its work for Jukes Holdings on the acquisition of coffin manufacturer FE Harris. Head of corporate David Ellis (pictured left with client Stewart Jukes) has also displayed a level of sector knowledge that would have most firms' marketing departments in raptures. 'There are approximately 60,000 deaths in the UK every year,' he tells us gravely, 'and our client will now be responsible for supplying caskets for 15% of those.'
