Oliver Wanger has added his name to the long list of US judges you should not cross - as a Californian firm has just found out to its cost. According to a report in The National Law Journal, the federal judge ordered that the entire 80-lawyer firm - yes, the whole firm - should go back to school and attend a refresher course in ethics. The judge had accused the firm of 'misguided advocacy' in a dispute over a learning-disabled student. The firm's managing shareholder told the Journal that the firm had engaged an expert in ethics to improve its quality control protocols and to advise on training. The firm has also subsequently taken its lawyers on a retreat where they were able to take a look at what went wrong, the Journal reported.
