Heavyweight figures drawn from the legal profession, major corporations and non-governmental organisations will be off to Paris next month for the International Bar Association's conference on anti-corruption enforcement. Happily, it will not all be hard work as on the Thursday night there is a wine tasting - 'a unique opportunity to discover and sample a selection of excellent wines from the various wine-growing regions of France' - sponsored by TRACE International, the non-profit organisation that carries out anti-bribery due diligence reviews. Delegates planning to get sloshed by not spitting out the wines on offer may be disappointed, however. The next morning there will be a 10am session on 'Non-cash bribes: travel, meals and lodging, entertainment, gifts, per diem' when questions such as 'When is lavish hospitality a violation?' will be addressed. Given the panel's moderator is from TRACE International, no doubt the previous night's bash will all be strictly within limits.
