Some law firms that appear in Obiter take the gentle ribbing we give them in better spirit than others, and hats off to Southport firm Barnetts for falling into that category. Back in April, we nominated the news that its finance manager, Tracey Wallace, was celebrating her tenth anniversary with the volume conveyancing and personal injury practice as a contender for the hotly contested honour of least interesting press release of the year. 'Full marks to Tracey, however,' we wrote, 'who apparently is off to have a baby shortly but hopes to be back at work by the end of the year. We look forward to hearing how the birth went.' And as a result, in a recent e-mail entitled 'Barnetts breaks more exciting news', we have received exclusive news and photographic proof that Ms Wallace gave birth to Chloe. 'There's never a dull moment at Barnetts,' said chief executive Joe Whelan. 'Keep watching this space for more breaking headline news.' No doubt we'll hear all about her return to work too. The only disappointment is that Ms Wallace didn't prove her loyalty to the practice by naming her child after it, unlike the secretary we once reported on at Norwich firm Steele & Co, who called her new child 'Steele'. Barnetta Wallace - surely that would have had a nice ring to it?
