Martin Roberts, London managing partner of Pinsent Masons, says his firm's sponsorship of the UK premiere of Sam Shepard's 'The Late Henry Moss' at the Almeida Theatre, offers 'an ideal platform to showcase' the firm's new brand. '[The Almeida's] reputation for performance excellence highlights our objective to be the leading sectoral law firm,' he enthuses.
Beyond the business benefits, there is also a personal dimension. A press officer tell us that Mr Roberts was at college with Trevor Cooper, who plays one of the lead characters. They were both doing a law degree and wrote a student revue which they performed in 1975. While Mr Cooper was lured by the boards, Mr Roberts was clearly lured by the boardroom. The pair are pictured (above), admiring the play's poster. It is rather nice to see them back together, both perhaps wondering what might have been.
There are obvious parallels to be drawn between the legal and acting professions - both have their fair share of drama queens, for one thing - but how did the firm try to ensure that it grabbed our attention? By pointing out a so-called 'legal' connection, of course. One of the actors is Andrew Lincoln, whose legal claim to fame is that he played the trainee solicitor Egg in 1990s cult TV series 'This Life'.
