Richard Taylor, partner at DLA Piper in Sheffield and the Gazette’s IP guru, has something of a passion for churches. So much so that he is currently on the box presenting a new BBC television series, Churches: How to Read Them, based on his own book of the same name. The series, which began on BBC Four last week, examines how the art and architecture of Britain’s churches tells the story of the nation. Taylor took six weeks off work to visit 70 churches for the programme, and it turns out that DLA colleagues were at least partly responsible for the project seeing the light of day. Taylor says: ‘The idea for my book came from a presentation I was required to give colleagues on a subject of my choice, as part of a training course on presentation skills. I was amazed by how interested they all were.’ Given that Taylor’s book sold a mean 100,000 copies, they clearly aren’t the only ones.
