The under-fire Legal Services Commission has been hit by judicial review after judicial review of its controversial reforms to legal aid. Now, Obiter has discovered, the battle has gone beyond the courts and into the world of art.
Leo Goatley, a Cheltenham-based legal aid lawyer who was Rose West's solicitor, is exhibiting the painting below, 'New Millennium Economic Symphony', at a Stuckist art exhibition. The piece is 'a visual commentary on society's dwindling safety net as a result of government policy, including the Carter reforms'.
The exhibition - called 'I won't have sex with you as long as we are married' (a reference to a comment apparently made by the artist Stella Vine to Charles Thomson, the co-founder of Stuckism, on their wedding day) - is taking place at the A Gallery, 154 Merton Hall Road, Wimbledon until 23 September 2007.
