The Law Society art group has thrown down an interesting challenge to solicitors. The group has been going since 1958 (see Memory Lane) and next January, to celebrate its 50th anniversary (okay, perhaps they are better at painting than maths) the group’s annual exhibition will take the theme of ‘legal Britain’, with a special prize for the best artwork. The group expects this year’s theme to invoke a certain amount of humour and suggests ‘the response of exhibitors to this broadest of themes in a time of great change and challenge in the profession could throw up some fascinating results’. Indeed, an image comes to Obiter’s mind of a stick solicitor knee-deep in a big pile of you-know-what. But that’s probably not quite what they have in mind. Anyone wishing to enter the competition must first join the group; contact jcorballis@aol.com.
