Our recent profile of Harry Sherrard, the motor sport-loving employment lawyer from Haywards Heath, and in particular the suggestion in it that he could be the fastest solicitor on two or four wheels has - as we suspected it might - brought a number of legal petrolheads out into the open.

First up we have Kate Featherstone, an associate at national firm Addleshaw Goddard who belies the traditionally staid image of tax lawyers. She tells us she has been racing cars since she was 14 - principally in grass track racing but also in the Legends Championship, the Mini Miglia Championship, Formula First and Formula Palmer-Audi.

She races a class 9 (rear wheel drive 2.0 modified) car - see above - and has won the National Autograss Championships 13 times, making her, she says, the most successful female driver in the country.

Another solicitor inspired to get in touch was Chris Christofi of east London firm Richard West Freeman Christofi. Mr Christofi offers himself forward as the fastest solicitor to crash - and live to tell the tale - after coming off his Yamaha R1 at Brands Hatch in 2004 at a recorded 141mph (faster than Mr Sherrard's recorded 131mph at the Jerez track in Spain). Apart from a bruised ego, he suffered 28 broken bones but was still back at work two weeks later. 'Unfortunately I had to give up parachuting after that,' he tells us ruefully.

All impressive stuff. However, neither of Mr Sherrard's rivals can yet match his claim to be a distant cousin of former Formula 1 driver Eddie Irvine or his collection of vehicles (see [2006] Gazette, 23 November, 9). If you think you can do better, email: gazette-editorial@lawsociety.org.uk
