It is fair to say that the language used in the world of IT is gobbledegook for your average lawyer and, Obiter freely admits, journalist. This was never truer than last month, which saw a company called Crescendo hail the introduction to the UK legal market of 'a back-end speech recognition solution' for the first time. Helpfully our blushes are spared, as the release informs us that back-end speech recognition means 'full support of the two-tiered workflow where the author dictates and the secretary corrects and finalises the report'. So the lawyer talks out of their behind, and the secretary saves the day. Simple, really.
