Richard Grand, the Arizona-based personal injury claimant lawyer who some years ago founded a club for fellow practitioners in that field who had bagged at least one million-dollar settlement &150; and launched a branch of the group in the UK &150; is becoming increasingly quixotic. Obiter is grateful to him for sending us his most recent 'thoughts for law students', which include some fairly banal points such as 'character and reputation are the two things you must have as a lawyer', and 'trickery and lying are forbidden'. However, there are far more entertaining gems to follow. Let the man speak for himself: 'The owl rehearses the cry of death in the forest', 'strike from the calendar dead yesterday and unborn tomorrow', 'turn down an empty glass', and 'write as if you were composing a greeting card'. It must be the desert heat.
