As Obiter reported last week, lawyers spend more on frocks and smocks than almost any other professionals. So all those readers with wardrobes stuffed full of gladrags should get themselves along to the glitzy charity ball being organised by trainee solicitor Kimberley Shields at Laytons in Guildford this month, in aid of Surrey children’s hospice CHASE. For anyone attending, the raffle will also present a chance to win what some (not many) might consider the pinnacle of sartorial style; a suit worn by wossy himself for one of his Friday Night with Jonathan Ross shows. Other celebrity-tastic prizes include: a framed movie still of Lord of the Rings autographed by Sir Ian McKellen; a framed autographed portrait of Dame Helen Mirren, and autographed goodies from Ewan McGregor, Jimmy Carr, Ricky Gervais and Julian Barratt from The Mighty Boosh. The glamorous occasion will be held at the Preston Cross Hotel in Bookham, Surrey, on Saturday 22 August. Shields says she is counting on a big turnout from the profession with 40 tickets so far sold to trainees and newly qualified solicitors. For anyone concerned about the size of Shields’ task, rest assured she has organised these big ticket events before; the last being a jelly wrestling competition. Not to be recommended in a ball gown. For tickets contact kimberleycshields@yahoo.com.
