Jill Parker, an associate at City firm Berwin Leighton Paisner who has qualified for the triathlon world championships in 2008 (see [2007] Gazette, 26 July, 9), is not the only solicitor destined for Vancouver, it has emerged.

Obiter has learned that Chris Hill, a property litigator at City firm Field Fisher Waterhouse, has also qualified to take part. His fiancée, Rowena Hunter (also a lawyer, but at investment bank Schroders) tells us he has done very well to qualify - he is also off to the world championships in Hamburg next month - given that it is his first year of competing in triathlons.

'This is also his first year of playing sport after a very serious injury to his knees,' Rowena loyally reports. 'As a schoolboy, he played rugby for England and signed with a top club before the injury. His doctors told him he'd never run or play sport ever again, so he has done exceptionally well to be back doing what he loves (competing), even if it is nearly ten years later.'

Obiter will be following our triathletes' exploits in the coming months. If you have a tale of legal sporting endeavour, email gazette-editorial@lawsociety.org.uk.
